Labor Day is observed on the first Monday of September. It is celebrated in the United States as well as Canada. This day recognizes the American Labor Movement and pays tribute to the laborers’ contribution to the achievements of the United States. It is a national federal holiday in the United States. The long weekend it falls on is known as the Labor Weekend. The importance of this day can be traced back to the 19th Century when the labor movements and trade unions started to flourish, and they demanded a separate day to celebrate labor. The first state to declare it a public holiday in 1887 was Oregon. In the year 1894, the US declared it an official federal holiday.
